Local Weather
Partly Cloudy & HOT with a couple passing showers throughout the day.
Although fair skies seem to be the weather pattern to open the new week, lingering moisture in the local region may produce bouts of clouds and brief, passing showers from time to time over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands. Winds are expected to increase during the early part of the week, causing above-normal waves. Therefore, small-boat operators & beach-goers are urged to use caution in the surrounding waters.
  • Winds: are generally from the East-Northeast at 8 to 18 miles per hour, with occasional gusts.
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly choppy with wave heights between 3 to 7 feet, possibly up to 8ft along the North & East shores.

Eye 4 Weather’s Official Website Launch

Eye 4 Weather is excited to announce the launch of our newly designed website, which goes live today, Sunday 15th January 2012.
The site’s homepage welcomes visitors with bold colors, a clean uncluttered design, and images with featured content focused on our mission to provide you with the most reliable and easy-to-read weather information.
The site includes: Daily & 6-day Forecasts, Special Alerts, Glossary, Related Links, and our very own Blog. By launching this site, we allow visitors the opportunity to access current weather information on a 24/7 basis. Of course, our forecasts are still provided for the SSS Islands, namely St. Maarten, Saba, and St. Eustatius.
Our Special Alerts segment will be updated prior to, during, and just after a critical weather event — including: hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, etc.
We also feature a Glossary that describes frequently used weather terms to give a better and clearer understanding of a forecast. You will find this content informative, engaging, and downright fun!
The website will be updated on a regular basis, with daily forecasts, articles, blogs, and videos (coming soon). We encourage visitors and residents of the SSS Islands to contact us through the website or Facebook fan page, and sign up for our daily weather forecast. Local Weather
Windy with Morning Showers, becoming more Sunny & HOT this afternoon.
As another cold front dips down into the Northern Caribbean, expect periodic showers over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands, as well as increased winds and rough seas at least until Sunday. Residents (and visitors) are advised to use caution along the road-ways, especially in low lying areas; while Mariners (small boat operators) are urged to travel along the surrounding waters with caution.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 10 to 20 miles per hour, with occasional gusts up to 25mph.
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly rough with wave heights between 3 to 7 feet, becoming rough by Saturday with waves up to 8ft.

As an area of moisture continues to move across the local region, few showers are expected from time to time over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands during the next couple days. Winds are forecast to remain weak, while sea conditions will become somewhat choppy by this afternoon and into tonight. Therefore mariners are advised to use caution at least until weekend. 
  • Winds: are generally from the East at 5 to 12 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly choppy with wave heights between 3 to 5 feet, with the highest waves over the Northern shores.


Special Weather 
At approximately 5.35 this morning, an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale struck near the Dominican Republic. This intermediate quake had an epicenter located near 18.42 N, 70.42 W -- about 34mi W of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/480mi W of St. Maarten. Immediate reports indicated minor damages (cracks in buildings), but no injuries thus far. There was/is no threat of a tsunami.

Although no significant rainfall is expected, a brief shower or two is still possible throughout the local region during the next couple days. Breezy conditions and somewhat rough seas will continue at least until Tuesday, before subsiding on Wednesday. Therefore boaters should continue to use caution when traveling through the surrounding waters.

* At approximately 2:27pm yesterday, an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter Scale struck in the Japan region. This strong quake had an epicenter located near 31.42 N, 138.16 E -- about 150mi SW of Hachijo-jima, Izu Islands, Japan/307mi SSW of Tokzo, Japan. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and no threat of a tsunami.
