Lingering moisture from the passing system may still cause some brief shower activity over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands throughout the day. These showers may continue to cause street-flooding and all residents (and visitors) should be extremely cautious when traveling through low-lying and flood-prone areas. Also, wind and sea conditions are forecast to begin subsiding by this afternoon. However, boaters & beach-goers should continue to use caution in the surrounding waters at least until tomorrow morning. Winds: are generally from the East to Southeast at 10 to 15 miles per hour, occasionally higher in and around showers. Today's Weather Update As of Monday, 28 November, 2011

Almanac 2011: 332 days in, 33 days remaining Hurricane Season: 180 days in, 3 days remaining  Today's Temps High: 85/29C, feels like 94F/34C Low: 77F/25C, feels like 80F/27C Local Weather Cloudy & Breezy, with a few passing showers & possible thunderstorms during the overnight hours. An area of disturbed weather has been moving across the area from yesterday and is expected to continue bringing cloud and shower activity at least until Tuesday. Therefore, we can expect some more showers from time to time with heavier showers and possible thunderstorms during the overnight to early morning hours. Street-flooding may continue to occur in low-lying and flood-prone areas, so all residents (and visitors) should use extreme caution. Otherwise, wind and sea conditions are forecast to increase by tonight and tomorrow. Mariners (boaters & beach-goers) are advised to be cautious in the surrounding waters as seas may be rough. Winds: are generally from the East at 10 to 15 miles per hour, occasionally higher in and around showers. Seas: are moderate to fairly rough with wave heights between 3 to 6 feet, possibly up to 8 feet in some spots. Tropical Weather  Active Storms: None. * No tropical development expected. Special Weather  At approximately 1.42 this morning, an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale struck near St. Maarten. This moderate earthquake had an epicenter located near 17.99 degrees North, 62.54 degrees West -- about 32 miles East of Philipsburg. Although it was felt throughout the SSS Islands, no reports of damage or injuries were reported. Fair weather continues to be the dominant feature for the next couple of days. However, moisture in the atmosphere may cause periods of clouds and a few brief showers from time to time -- mainly during the afternoon to overnight hours. Additionally, moderate wind and sea conditions will remain throughout the SSS (St. Maarten-Saba-St. Eustatius) Islands and the Northeastern Caribbean. Boaters and beach-goers should still use caution as seas may become somewhat choppy by this evening and into tomorrow. Winds: are generally from the Northeast at 5 to 15 miles per hour. Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 5 feet. Tropical Weather  Active Storms: None. * An area of disturbed weather is located to the Northeast of the Caribbean region has a medium (50%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 48 hours. This system is forecast to move further away from the local area and does not pose any threat to any land area. Special Weather Volcanic activity at the Soufriere Hills in Montserrat experienced over the weekend has ceased, although pyroclastic flows & small emissions of ash are still possible from time to time.
