Mostly Sunny & Windy with a brief shower or two possible throughout the day.
Fair weather conditions open the New Year & New Week throughout the SSS Islands (St. Maarten-Saba-St. Eustatius). Although no significant rainfall is expected, a brief shower or two is still possible throughout the local region during the next couple days. Breezy conditions and somewhat rough seas will continue at least until Tuesday, before subsiding on Wednesday. Therefore boaters should continue to use caution when traveling through the surrounding waters.
  • Winds: are generally from the East at 10 to 20 miles per hour, occasionally gusting up to 25mph.
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly rough with wave heights between 3 to 7 feet, with the highest waves over the Northern shores.

Special Weather 
* At approximately 2:27pm yesterday, an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter Scale struck in the Japan region. This strong quake had an epicenter located near 31.42 N, 138.16 E -- about 150mi SW of Hachijo-jima, Izu Islands, Japan/307mi SSW of Tokzo, Japan. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and no threat of a tsunami.
