Local Weather
Partly Sunny & HOT with a few passing showers throughout the day.
As an area of moisture continues to move across the local region, few showers are expected from time to time over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands during the next couple days. Winds are forecast to remain weak, while sea conditions will become somewhat choppy by this afternoon and into tonight. Therefore mariners are advised to use caution at least until weekend. 
  • Winds: are generally from the East at 5 to 12 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly choppy with wave heights between 3 to 5 feet, with the highest waves over the Northern shores.


Special Weather 
At approximately 5.35 this morning, an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale struck near the Dominican Republic. This intermediate quake had an epicenter located near 18.42 N, 70.42 W -- about 34mi W of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/480mi W of St. Maarten. Immediate reports indicated minor damages (cracks in buildings), but no injuries thus far. There was/is no threat of a tsunami.
