Daily Forecast: St. Maarten-St. Eustatius-Saba (SSS Islands)

Almanac

2011:
304 days in, 61 days remaining

Hurricane Season:
153 days in, 31 days remaining

Today's Temps
High: 86/30C, feels like 92F/33C
Low: 78F/26C, feels like 81F/27C

Local Weather
Partly Sunny & Breezy, with a couple brief afternoon showers.
Moisture in the atmosphere may induce a few brief showers from time to time during the next couple of days, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. Furthermore, a high pressure system will maintain breezy conditions into the beginning of the current week, while a small/weak tropical disturbance brings increasing shower conditions by Tuesday evening/early Wednesday over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands. Some of these showers may be heavy and can cause minor street-flooding in certain areas. Otherwise, sea conditions will become choppy to fairly rough, especially around showers. Therefore, mariners (small craft operators & beach-goers) should exercise caution when traveling through the surrounding & open waters.

  • Winds: are from the East-Northeast at 10 to 20 miles per hour, with occasional higher gusts (mainly near showers).
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly choppy with wave heights between 3 to 7 feet, with higher waves in and around showers.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: None.
* The remaining names for this year's (Atlantic) Hurricane Season are: Sean, Tammy, Vince, Whitney.

Special Weather
None.

Outlook for tomorrow
Partly Cloudy & HOT with a few passing showers.

Low: 78F/26C, feels like 82F/28C

Local Weather
Partly Cloudy & HOT, with a couple brief showers, mainly during the afternoon to evening hours.
Fair weather conditions are expected to continue into the beginning of the week with a minimal chance for shower activity. However, as a weak tropical wave passes South of the local region, a few passing showers are expected from time to time over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands. Some of these showers may cause minor street-flooding in certain areas. Otherwise, a (warm) breeze with moderate sea conditions will continue throughout the coming days.

  • Winds: are from the East at 5 to 12 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 5 feet.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: None.
* A tropical disturbance located near the Yucatan Peninsula has a high (60%) chance of developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm later today/tomorrow. However, regardless of development heavy rains will affect areas of Central America, Cuba, and South Florida during the next day or so. This system does not pose a threat to the SSS (and surrounding) Islands.
* Another weak tropical wave located about 1400mi (about 5 days away) East of the Lesser Antilles has a low (10%) chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 2 days, as it moves Westward at 5 to 10mph. This system currently poses no threat to any land areas. We will continue to monitor its progress.
