Local Weather
Partly Cloudy, with a few passing showers.
Moisture ahead of the approaching tropical wave (see below) will induce a few passing showers over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands over the next 24 to 36 hours. Increasing showers and windy conditions will be felt as of tomorrow and through at least Monday. Therefore, mariners (boaters & beach-goers) should continue to exercise caution in the open waters.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 8 to 18 miles per hour, with occasional higher gusts near showers.
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly choppy with wave heights between 3 to 5 feet.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Tropical Depression 8.
The tropical wave located in the Western Caribbean developed into Tropical Depression 8 last night, as it approaches the coast of Northeastern Honduras. TD8 is forecast to skirt Honduras and become a tropical storm, with a landfall expected on Saturday and Guatemala/Belize border on Sunday, and does NOT pose a threat to the SSS (nor surrounding) Islands.
* A tropical wave located about 1000mi East of the Lesser Antilles is expected to move into the local region by late Saturday/early Sunday, bringing showers/thunderstorms and gusty winds to the SSS (and surrounding) Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. This system has a medium (40%) chance to develop into a tropical depression as it moves into an area that is more favorable for development.
* Additionally, another tropical wave located just off the African coast also has a medium (50%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone as it moves Westward and across the Atlantic Ocean. This system is about 5-6 days away from the local region, so it is too soon to determine when/where this system will progress.
