Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & Windy with periodic showers and a possible thunderstorm or two.
Hurricane Irene continues to move away from the local region. Lingering moisture left behind this system will allow for a few showers from time to time today and tomorrow, with a gradual decrease in winds. Therefore expect breezy conditions to persist at least through Tuesday. Residents (and visitors) are still advised to use caution when traveling through low-lying and flood-prone areas, as the water will take some time to subside. Furthermore, some more flooding is still possible as showers continue to fall. Otherwise, mariners (boaters & beach-goers) should continue to exercise extreme caution in the open waters as the seas are still rough and strong winds still persist.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 15 to 25 miles per hour, with higher gusts near showers upto 35 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are fairly choppy to rough with wave heights between 6 to 9 feet, and will gradually decrease as of tomorrow. A Small Craft Advisory is still in effect and mariners are advised not to venture out of port during the next 24 hours.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Tropical Depression Harvey, Hurricane Irene.
* Tropical Depression Harvey made a second landfall in Veracruz, Mexico this morning and is expected to continue dissipating and should be completely diminished by tonight. Harvey does NOT pose any threat to the SSS Islands nor any other Caribbean islands.
* Tropical Storm Irene was upggraded to Hurricane Irene this morning, and continues to move away from the local region. As of 11am this morning, the center of Irene was locaed at 19.2N 67.5W or about  180mi WNW of St. Maarten/105mi WNW of San Juan, Puerto Rico/70mi NE of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with maximum sustained winds of 80mph (Cat.1), and is moving West-Northwest at 13mph. Although Irene has passed our area, we will still experience showers and windy conditions at least through Tuesday.
Tropical Storm Warnings for the SSS and surrounding Islands have been discontinued.

Special Weather
None.
