Local Weather
Partly Cloudy & HOT with a shower or two possible.
A weak area of disturbance that has maintained shower activity this week, mainly during the overnight hours, will begin moving away from the local region today. However, a chance for a shower or two still exists over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands from time to time. Otherwise, wind and sea conditions have subsided to normal levels and have become more favorable for beaching and outdoor activities.

  • Winds: are generally from the East to Southeast at 5 to 15 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Hurricane Irene, Tropical Depression 10.
* As of 8am this morning, Major Hurricane Irene had maximum sustained winds of 115mph (Cat. 3) and was located at 25.5N 76.5W or about 1000mi NW of St. Maarten. Irene is moving towards the NW at 13mph and across the Bahamas. This dangerous system does NOT pose any threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands.
* The tropical wave located about 435miles WSW of the Cape Verde Islands developed into Tropical Depression 10 this morning. The center of Depression10 was located 12.4N 30.4W or about 2200miles SE of the SSS islands, and is moving Westnorthwest at 13mph. This system may most likely develop into a tropical storm today, however is still about 5 days away from the local region. Forecasters show that Depression 10 will make a turn towards the Northwest sometime today, thus keeping it away from the Lesser Antilles.
