Although chances are limited, a brief shower or two is still possible. Otherwise, moderate wind and sea conditions will remain at least until the end of the week, thus favorable for beaching and outdoor activities.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 5 to 15 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Tropical Storm Katia.

Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & slighlty breezy with a couple passing showers.
As an area of moisture moves across the local region, therefore expect a few passing showers over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands today. Also, a dry layer of air will move into the area, thus limiting shower chances on Wednesday. Otherwise, moderate wind and sea conditions will remain at least for the next couple of days.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 8 to 18 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 5 feet.

Katia is moving West-northwest at 17mph and is expected to pick up speed during the next couple of days. Regardless of speed, Katia is forecast to continue strengthening and may become a hurricane by late Wednesday/early Thursday. This system is still about 5 days away from the local region, and we will continue to monitor its progress and path to determine if it will affect the SSS (and surrounding) Islands.

Today's Temps
High: 87F/31C, feels like 97F/36C
Low: 78F/26C, feels like 83F/29C

Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & slighlty breezy with a couple passing showers.
As an area of moisture moves into the local region, the chances for showers increase slightly. Thus allowing for a passing shower or two to occur over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands today and tomorrow. Otherwise, moderate wind and sea conditions will remain at least for the next couple of days.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 5 to 15 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Tropical Storm Jose, Tropical Depression 12.
* Tropical Storm Irene was downgraded to a post-tropical system near the U.S./Canada border last night. Therefore, the National Hurricane Center has issued its last advisory on the system as of 11:00pm. The remnants of Irene is forecast to continue weakening as it moves over Eastern Canada today. This weakening system does NOT pose any threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands.
* Tropical Storm Jose was located at 37.2N 64.7W or about 240mii N of Bermuda/1300mi N of St. Maarten, as of of 5am this morning. Jose had maximum sustained winds of 40mph and is racing Northward at 23mph. This system is expected to lose its tropical characteristics today and does NOT pose a threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands.
* Additionally, the tropical wave located near the Cape Verde Islands has developed into Tropical Depression 12 this morning. As of 5am, TD12 was located 9.4N 26.3W or about 2500mi SE of St. Maarten, and is moving Westward at 15mph. TD12 has maximum sustained winds of 35mph and is forecast to strengthen over the next day or two, and could possibly become a tropical storm later today. At which point it would be named 'Katia'. This system is still about 5-6 days away from the local region, so it is too soon to determine what, if any, impact it will have on the SSS (and surrounding) Islands.

Special Weather
On Saturday afternoon at about 12.15pm, a moderate earthquake occurred about 20miles ENE of Oranjestad, Aruba with a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter Scale. High: 87F/31C, feels like 97F/36C
Low: 79F/26C, feels like 82F/28C

Local Weather
Partly Cloudy & HOT with a shower or two possible.
Fair weather is expected through the weekend across the local region, with a minimal chance for a shower or two. This is due to a relatively dryer air layer that is moving into the area. Otherwise, a high pressure system will maintain moderate wind and sea conditions over the SSS (and surrounding) Islands throughout the weekend. As a result, conditions are favorable for beaching and outdoor activities.

  • Winds: are generally from the East to Southeast at 5 to 15 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Hurricane Irene, Tropical Depression 10.
* As of 8am this morning, Hurricane Irene had maximum sustained winds of 110mph (Cat. 2) and was located at 30.0N 77.3W or about 375miles SSW of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Therefore expect breezy conditions and shower activity to persist at least through Wednesday. Residents (and visitors) are still advised to use caution when traveling through low-lying and flood-prone areas, as flooding is still possible as showers continue to fall. Otherwise, mariners (boaters & beach-goers) should continue to exercise extreme caution in the open waters as the seas are still a bit rough and above-normal winds still prevail.

  • Winds: are generally from the East to Southeast at 10 to 25 miles per hour, with higher gusts near showers upto 30 miles per hour.
