Local Weather
Partly Cloudy & HOT with a shower or two possible.
Fair weather is expected through the weekend across the local region, with a minimal chance for a shower or two. This is due to a relatively dryer air layer that is moving into the area. Otherwise, a high pressure system will maintain moderate wind and sea conditions over the SSS (and surrounding) Islands throughout the weekend. As a result, conditions are favorable for beaching and outdoor activities.
- Winds: are generally from the East to Southeast at 5 to 15 miles per hour.
- Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet.
Tropical Weather Active Storms: Hurricane Irene, Tropical Depression 10.
* As of 8am this morning, Hurricane Irene had maximum sustained winds of 110mph (Cat. 2) and was located at 30.0N 77.3W or about 375miles SSW of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Irene is moving towards the N at 14mph and is approaching the Eastern Coast of the United States. This dangerous system does NOT pose any threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands.
* Tropical Depression was located 14.5N 33.7W or about 1900miles SSE of the SSS islands, and is moving Westnorthwest at 9mph. This system is showing signs of disorganization, yet still maintaining maximum sustained winds of 35mph. Little change in strength is expected over the next day or two. Forecasts still indicate that Depression 10 will make a turn towards the Northwest before turning Northwards, thus keeping it away from the Lesser Antilles.
Special Weather
None.
