Daily Forecast: St. Maarten-St. Eustatius-Saba (SSS Islands)

Today's Weather Update As of Sunday, 28 August, 2011 - 9:00am.

Almanac 2011: 240 days in, 125 days remaining Hurricane Season: 89 days in, 95 days remaining  Today's Temps High: 88F/31C, feels like 97F/36C Low: 78F/26C, feels like 84F/29C Local Weather Partly to Mostly Cloudy & HOT with a shower or two possible. Fair weather is expected today across the local region, with a minimal chance for a shower or two. As an area of moisture moves into the area, chances for showers will slightly increase by Monday. Otherwise, moderate wind and sea conditions over the SSS (and surrounding) Islands for the next couple of days. As a result, conditions are favorable for beaching and outdoor activities. Winds: are generally from the East at 5 to 15 miles per hour. Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet. Tropical Weather Active Storms: Tropical Storm Irene, Tropical Storm Jose. * The center of Hurricane Irene made landfall near Little Egg Inlet, New Jersey around 5:35 this morning, and as of 9am had maximum sustained winds of 65mph -- therefore being downgraded to a tropical storm. Irene is moving towards the NNE at 25mph and is forecast to move near New York City this morning and inland over Souther New England by this afternoon. This weakening system does NOT pose any threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands. * Tropical Storm Jose formed near Bermuda this morning and has maximum sustained winds of 40mph. Jose was located at 30.8N 65.7W or about 115mi SSW of Bermuda/900mi N of St. Maarten and is moving N at 16mph. This system is forecast to weaken by this evening and does NOT pose a threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands. * Additionally, a tropical wave has developed off the coast of Africa or a few hundred miles South-Southeast of the Cape Verde Islands. This system is becoming better organized and has a medium (40%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next two days as it moves Westward at 10mph.  Special Weather None.
