Local Weather
Partly Cloudy & HOT with a shower or two possible.
Fair weather is expected through the weekend across the local region, with a minimal chance for a shower or two. As an area of moisture moves into the area, chances for showers will slightly increase by Monday. Otherwise, a high pressure system will maintain moderate wind and sea conditions over the SSS (and surrounding) Islands throughout the weekend. As a result, conditions are favorable for beaching and outdoor activities.
- Winds: are generally from the East at 5 to 15 miles per hour.
- Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet.
Tropical Weather Active Storms: Hurricane Irene.
* The center of Hurricane Irene made landfall near Lookout, North Carolina this morning around 7.30am, and as of 8am had maximum sustained winds of 85mph (Cat. 1). Irene is moving towards the NNE at 14mph and is forecast to move across Eastern North Carolina today before moving on to the Mid-Atlantic States tonight and Southern New England on Sunday. This large system does NOT pose any threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands.
* Tropical Depression 10 dissipated last night and the National Hurricane Center has issued their last advisory on the system. The remnants of TD10 is moving towards the NNW at 7mph and had maximum sustained winds of 30mph. Further weakening is expected during the next day or two, therefore this system will NOT pose a threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands.
Special Weather
