Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & slighlty breezy with a couple passing showers.
As an area of moisture moves into the local region, the chances for showers increase slightly. Thus allowing for a passing shower or two to occur over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands today and tomorrow. Otherwise, moderate wind and sea conditions will remain at least for the next couple of days.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 5 to 15 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Tropical Storm Jose, Tropical Depression 12.
* Tropical Storm Irene was downgraded to a post-tropical system near the U.S./Canada border last night. Therefore, the National Hurricane Center has issued its last advisory on the system as of 11:00pm. The remnants of Irene is forecast to continue weakening as it moves over Eastern Canada today. This weakening system does NOT pose any threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands.
* Tropical Storm Jose was located at 37.2N 64.7W or about 240mii N of Bermuda/1300mi N of St. Maarten, as of of 5am this morning. Jose had maximum sustained winds of 40mph and is racing Northward at 23mph. This system is expected to lose its tropical characteristics today and does NOT pose a threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands.
* Additionally, the tropical wave located near the Cape Verde Islands has developed into Tropical Depression 12 this morning. As of 5am, TD12 was located 9.4N 26.3W or about 2500mi SE of St. Maarten, and is moving Westward at 15mph. TD12 has maximum sustained winds of 35mph and is forecast to strengthen over the next day or two, and could possibly become a tropical storm later today. At which point it would be named 'Katia'. This system is still about 5-6 days away from the local region, so it is too soon to determine what, if any, impact it will have on the SSS (and surrounding) Islands.

On Saturday afternoon at about 12.15pm, a moderate earthquake occurred about 20miles ENE of Oranjestad, Aruba with a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter Scale.
