Local Weather
Partly Sunny & HOT with a shower or two possible.
As Tropical Storm Katia continues its progress away from the local region (see below), expect fair weather at least through the beginning of the week. However, a brief passing shower or two is still possible from time to time over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands, mainly during the morning hours. Also, a Small Craft Advisory and a High Surf Advisory is issued until further notice as the local region is experiencing rough seas due to the passing of Katia. Therefore, mariners (especially small boat operators) should safeguard their properties as sea conditions will be above normal and should begin to subside by late tonight/early Monday.
- Winds: are from the Nort to Northwest at 2 to 12 miles per hour.
- Seas: are rough with wave heights between 4 to 9 feet, and should begin to gradually subside by late tonight/early Monday. These above-normal conditions can cause dangerous rip currents making it difficult to swim.
Tropical Weather Active Storms: Tropical Storm Katia, Tropical Storm Lee.
* Hurricane Katia was downgraded to a tropical storm yesterday afternoon, and as of 5am this morning was located 21.4N 58.5W or about 370miles NE of the Northern Caribbean with maximum sustained winds of 70mph. Katia is moving Northwest at 12mph and is forecast to slowly strengthen over the next couple days. The center of Katia is already North of the local region, and this system should continue moving further away from the SSS (and surrounding) Islands.
* As of 5am, Tropical Storm Lee was located about 50miles SW of Lafayette, Louisiana and had winds of 45mph. Lee is creeping Northward at 2mph and is expected to gradually weaken over the next day or two. This system does NOT pose any threat to the SSS Islands or the rest of the Caribbean.
Special Weather
None.
