Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & HOT, with a few passing showers & slight risk of a thunderstorm or two.
Ophelia regenerated into a tropical depression yesterday afternoon (see below), but has remained somewhat stationary (not moving) and is located just to the East of the local region. This system is expected to begin drifting Northward later today, while producing some showers and possible thunderstorm activity over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands during the next 24 hours. Some of these showers may be heavy and can cause street-flooding in low-lying & flood-prone areas. Furthermore, winds are gentle to moderate and may slightly increase in and around showers, while sea conditions are forecast to begin deteriorating by Thursday, as Ophelia intensifies.

  • Winds: are generally from the North to Northwest at 5 to 10 miles per hour, with occasional higher gusts near showers.
  • Seas: are gentle to moderate with wave heights between 2 to 5 feet; and possibly higher in and around showers.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Tropical Depression Ophelia, Tropical Storm Philippe.

* Ophelia regenerated into a tropical depression yesterday afternoon and as of 5am this morning was located at 18.6N 60.0W or about 200mi East of the Northeastern Caribbean. TD Ophelia had winds of 35mph and is forecast to drift towards the Northwest at about 3mph, before increasing in forward speed. Ophelia is also expected to further intensify and may possibly become a tropical storm (again) later today.
* As of 5am this morning, Tropical Storm Philippe was located at 16.5N 38.0W or about 930mi West of the Cape Verde Islands/
1650mi East of the Lesser Antilles. TS Philippe had winds of 40mph and does not pose a threat to the Caribbean or any land area, as it moves toward the West-Northwest and out into the open waters at 12mph. This system may weaken to a tropical depression later today or tonight.
We will continue to monitor the progress of these systems.
