Local Weather
Partly Sunny & Breezy with a few passing showers possible, mainly during the afternoon to evening hours.
A system of high pressure has moved into the local region, thus limiting the chances for showers. However, a brief shower or two is still possible over the next 24 to 48 hours, mainly during the afternoon to evening hours. Breezy conditions will continue into the weekend as sea conditions gradually deteriorate, due to the approach of Tropical Storm Ophelia (see below). Therefore, mariners (especially small-craft operators) should exercise caution in the surrounding and open waters as the seas become fairly rough.
- Winds: are generally from the East at 8 to 18 miles per hour, with occasional higher gusts up to 22mph.
- Seas: are moderate to fairly choppy with wave heights between 3 to 7 feet; becoming rough with waves between 4 to 8 feet by Saturday, with the highest wave action along the Eastern-facing shores.
Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Tropical Storm Ophelia.
* As of 5am this morning, Tropical Storm Ophelia was located at 14.5N 51.0W or about 740mi ESE of the Lesser Antilles and had weakened to winds of 45mph. Ophelia is moving toward the West-Northwest at 13mph and is expected to continue weakening as it crosses the Atlantic. TS Ophelia may even decrease to a tropical depression by tomorrow, and is forecast to pass just north of the local region on Sunday. Therefore, effects of this system may be limited to just some passing showers and little to no significant wind impact, as most of the tropical-storm-force winds remains to the north of Ophelia's center.
We will continue to monitor the progress of this system.
Special Weather
None.
Outlook for tomorrow
