Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & Breezy with few showers from time to time.
Although the center of Tropical Storm Maria has moved on to the North of the local region, outer rain bands of this re-organizing system will still affect the SSS (and surrounding) Islands. Showers and breezy conditions will persist at least until Monday evening. Furthermore, with this abundant rainfall, minor street-flooding are still possible. Therefore residents (and visitors) should continue using caution when traveling through low-lying and flood-prone areas today. A Small Craft Advisory is still in effect until further notice, and mariners (especially small-craft operators) should use extreme caution when traveling through the surrounding open waters.

  • Winds: are strong and generally from the South at 10 to 20 miles per hour, with occasional higher gusts up to 30 miles per hour in and around showers. Winds will begin to decrease by this evening.
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly rough with wave heights between 4 to 8 feet, mainly in the open waters & off the Southern-facing shores. Seas are expected to gradually improve by later today.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Tropical Storm Maria.
* As of this morning at 5am, the center of Tropical Storm Maria was located at 20.8N 66.3W or about 280mi NW of St. Maarten/165mi N of Puerto Rico, and had winds of 60mph. Maria has slowed down and is forecast to change little in strength during the next couple days. This system is moving Northwest at 9mph and is forecast to continue affecting the local area---with showers, gusty winds, and minor flooding---for the next 24 hours, as it moves away from the region. Residents (and visitors) are advised to watch/listen to local media for official instructions and announcements.
* Tropical Storm Nate was downgraded to a non-tropical system of low pressure after making landfall near Barra de Nautla, Mexico late yesterday morning. The National Hurricane Center has issued its last advisory on this system.
