Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & Windy with showers, some may be heavy with a slight risk of thunder.
The center of Tropical Storm Maria passed just East of the SSS Islands late last night into early this morning. However, showers and gusty winds are expected to remain over the local area throughout the day and will become less during the overnight hours. Furthermore, some showers may be heavy and can cause minor street-flooding; therefore residents (and visitors) should use caution when traveling through low-lying and flood-prone areas today. A Small Craft Advisory has been issued, and mariners (especially small-craft operators should use extreme caution when traveling through the surrounding open waters.

  • Winds: are strong and generally from the South at 15 to 25 miles per hour with occasional higher gusts up to 35 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are fairly rough to rough with wave heights between 4 to 8 feet, mainly in the open waters & off the Southern-facing shores. Seas are expected to begin gradually improving by late this evening.
     
Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Tropical Storm Maria, Tropical Storm Nate.
* As of this morning at 5am, the center of Tropical Storm Maria was located at 19.0N 63.7W or about 70mi NW of St. Maarten/95mi ENE of St. Thomas, and had winds of 60mph. Maria is strengthening and has become better organized during the last 12 or so hours. This system is moving Northwest at 13mph and is forecast to continue affecting the local area---bringing showers, strong gusty winds, and minor flooding---for the next 24 hours, as it moves away from the region. Residents (and visitors) are advised to watch/listen to local media for official instructions and announcements.
* Tropical Storm Nate is about to make landfall near Veracruz, Mexico and has maximum sustained winds of 60mph. This system does NOT pose a threat to the SSS Islands or the rest of the Caribbean.
