Local Weather
Partly Sunny & HOT with a shower or two possible, slight risk of thunderstorm overnight.
Fair weather is forecast to continue throughout the weekend and into the beginning of the week. However, a few passing showers may occur from time to time over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands with a slight risk of a thunderstorm during the overnight to early morning hours. Also, as Hurricane Katia progress nearer to the local region, sea conditions have deteriorated  a bit, causing a Small Craft Advisory and a High Surf Advisory to be issued until further notice. Therefore, mariners (especially small boat operators) should safeguard their properties as sea conditions will be above normal for the next couple days.

  • Winds: are from the Northeast to North at 5 to 15 miles per hour, with higher gusts in and around showers.
  • Seas: are moderate to rough with wave heights between 3 to 6 feet, becoming up to 8 feet by tomorrow. These above-normal conditions can cause dangerous rip currents making it difficult to swim.
Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Hurricane Katia, Tropical Storm Lee.
* As of 5am, Hurricane Katia was located 19.3N 55.1W or about 530mi E of the Northern Caribbean with maximum sustained winds of 75mph (Category 1). Katia is moving Northwest at 10mph and is forecast to slowly strengthen tomorrow. This system is expected to pass well to the North of the SSS Islands by late Sunday/early Monday, therefore not posing a threat to the local area.
* Tropical Depression 13 developed into Tropical Storm Lee yesterday afternoon and had winds of 50mph as of this morning at 5am. Lee is moving towards the North-northwest at 7mph and is expected to make landfall in Louisiana by this afternoon or tonight before slowly crossing the state. This system does NOT pose any threat to the SSS Islands or the rest of the Caribbean.

Special Weather
None.

Outlook for tomorrow
Partly Cloudy & HOT with a few passing showers from time to time.
