Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & Breezy with a few passing showers, and a slight risk of a thunderstorm.
Lingering moisture left behind the tropical wave that passed through the local area, expect a few passing showers and a slight risk of a thunderstorm from time to time over parts of the SSS (and surrounding) Islands. These showers may be heavy at times and may cause street-flooding. Therefore residents (and visitors) should use caution when traveling through low-lying and flood-prone areas in the coming days. Otherwise, wind and sea conditions are moderate with a slight increase in and around showers.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 8 to 18 miles per hour, with occasional higher gusts up to 25 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly choppy with wave heights between 3 to 5 feet. Small craft operators should use caution when traveling through the surrounding open waters, especially near showers.
Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Hurricane Katia, Tropical Storm Maria, Tropical Storm Nate.
* Hurricane Katia has winds of 90mph (category 1), as it moves Northward and further away from the local region. This system poses NO threat to the SSS (and surrounding) Islands.
* Tropical Depression 14 developed into Tropical Storm Maria yesterday afternoon, and as of this morning at 8am had winds of 50mph. The center of Maria was located at 13.0N 50.0W or about 760 miles E of the Lesser Antilles, and is racing Westward at 23mph. This system is forecast to affect the local area by Friday evening and into Saturday. Residents (and visitors) should begin making preparations for this approaching system. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, Nevis, and St. Kitts...meaning tropical storm conditions are expected within the watch area during the next 36 to 48 hours.
We will continue to monitor the progress of this system draws nearer.

* Additionally, the tropical disturbance located near Mexico devloped into Tropical Storm Nate with winds of 45mph and is drifting toward the Southeast at 1mph. This system does NOT pose a threat to the SSS Islands or the rest of the Caribbean.
