Fair weather is expected for the beginning of the week along with a brief shower or two possible during the morning hours, and shower activity is forecast to increase by Wednesday. Otherwise wind conditions remain moderate, while sea conditions begin to subside from the rough seas caused by the passing of Hurricane Katia over the weekend. A Small Craft Advisory and High Surf Advisory remain in effect until the seas have returned to normal.

  • Winds: are from the South to Southeast at 2 to 12 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are moderate to fairly rough with wave heights between 3 to 7 feet, and becoming 4 feet by later today. Conditions still pose a difficulty for swimmers today.

* Hurricane Katia was located 23.9N 62.0W or about 400miles N of the Northern Caribbean with maximum sustained winds of 100mph (Cat. 2). Katia continues to move Northwest at 12mph and is forecast to slowly strengthen over the next couple days. This system may become a major hurricane by Tuesday, but poses NO threat to the SSS (and surrounding) Islands.
* Tropical Storm Lee was downgraded to tropical depression status and the National Hurricane Center has issued its last advisory on Lee as of 11pm last night. This system does NOT pose any threat to the SSS Islands or the rest of the Caribbean.
