Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & Breezy with passing showers during the afternoon to evening hours & a possible thunderstorm or two.
A tropical disturbance located just to the East of the Lesser Antilles will begin moving into the area by this afternoon/evening and will bring showers and possible thunderstorms to the SSS (and surrounding) Islands through the weekend. Wind and sea levels are likely to increase in and around these showers, but will remain moderate for the majority of the time. Mariners (especially small-craft operators) are still urged to use caution when traveling through the surrounding waters.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 8 to 18 miles per hour, with occasional higher gusts.
  • Seas: are moderate with wave heights between 3 to 6 feet, with the highest wave action in and around showers -- mainly along the Eastern-facing shores.

Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Hurricane Maria.
* Maria was upgraded to a hurricane yesterday afternoon, and as of this morning was still racing Northward into the open waters of the Northern Atlantic Ocean, near the Northeastern US/Southeastern tip of Canada. This system currently poses no threat to the Caribbean region.
* A weak tropical wave located near the Cape Verde Islands has a very low (0%) chance of developing into a tropical depression in the coming days -- as it shows little to no signs of organization; but eventual development is still possible. We will monitor the progress of this system.

Special Weather
None.
