Local Weather
Partly to Mostly Cloudy & Windy with showers and possible thunderstorms, becoming less by nightfall.
As Tropical Storm Maria (see below) meanders near the local region, expect showers and windy conditions throughout the day. Some of these showers may be heavy and will cause street-flooding; therefore residents (and visitors) should use caution when traveling through low-lying and flood-prone areas today and tomorrow. A Small Craft Advisory has been issued until further notice, and mariners (especially small-craft operators should use extreme caution when traveling through the surrounding open waters.

  • Winds: are strong from the Northeast to East at 25 to 40 miles per hour with occasional higher gusts up to 50 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are fairly rough to rough with wave heights between 4 to 9 feet, and waves up to 12 feet in some areas -- mainly in the open waters & off the Eastern-facing shores. Seas are expected to begin gradually improving by Sunday evening.
     
Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Hurricane Katia, Tropical Storm Maria, Tropical Storm Nate.
* Hurricane Katia has winds of 80mph (category 1), as it moves towards the East-Northeast and further away from the Canadian coast. This system poses NO threat to the SSS (and surrounding) Islands. Katia is forecast to become extra-tropical today, and as such this will be the final advisory on this system.
* As of this morning at 5am, the center of Tropical Storm Maria was located at 16.0N 60.2W or about 200mi SE of the SSS islands/80mi ESE of Guadeloupe, and had winds of 45mph. Maria is moving Northwest at 13mph and is forecast to continue affecting the local area---bringing showers, strong gusty winds, and localized flooding---for the next 24 or so hours. Residents (and visitors) are advised to watch/listen to local media for official instructions and announcements.A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for: St. Maarten/St. Martin, Saba, St. Eustatius, Anguilla, Antigua, St. Barths, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, Dominica, British Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Vieques & Culebra....meaning tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 24 hours
We will continue to monitor the progress of Maria.

* Tropical Storm Nate located near Veracruz, Mexico has winds of 50mph and is moving toward the West at 5mph. This system does NOT pose a threat to the SSS Islands or the rest of the Caribbean.
