Local Weather
Partly Cloudy & HOT with a couple brief showers possible.
Expect fair weather throughout the Northeastern Caribbean at least through Friday. A minimal chance for a brief shower or two still exists. Shower activity is expected to increase as we get into the weekend and Hurricane Katia (see below) passes near the local region. Otherwise, moderate wind and sea conditions will remain at least until the end of the week, thus favorable for beaching and outdoor activities.

  • Winds: are generally from the East at 5 to 15 miles per hour.
  • Seas: are tranquil with wave heights between 2 to 4 feet.
Tropical Weather
Active Storms: Hurricane Katia.
* Tropical Storm Katia was upgraded to a hurricane this morning, and as of 5am, was located 15.2N 45.9W or about 1000mi E of the Lesser Antilles with maximum sustained winds of 75mph (Category 1). Katia is moving Westward at 20mph and is forecast to continue strengthening to become a major hurricane (category 3 or higher) by the weekend. This system is expected to pass just to the North of the SSS Islands by Sunday. We will continue to monitor its progress as it gets closer to us.
* Additionally, tropical wave located near Central America could develop into a tropical depression or storm within the next day or two, as it has a high (70%) chance for development. This system is churning in the Gulf of Mexico and does NOT pose any threat to the SSS (or surrounding) Islands.

Special Weather
None.
